Amazing Fantasy #15
Origin and first appearance of Spider-Man
Lowest price $10,000
Average price $30,000
Record price $3,600,000
There is absolutely no doubt that this is THE Silver Age comic book! Spider-Man was first debuted in this, the final issue of a tryout series Amazing Fantasy.
He went on to become the world's greatest comic book character, effectively catapulting Marvel to the forefront of comic book publishing for decades.
The record sale of $3.6M was for a CGC 9.6. This is exceptional for any Silver Age comic. Most copies of AF#15 turn up in 2.5-4.0 condition.
Amazing Spider-Man #1
Fantastic Four crossover
Lowest price $4,000
Average price $15,000
Record price $1,380,000
The poor man's AF#15, Amazing Spider Man comics #1 is the most important issue in the solo run (although you could make an argument for #14, the first Green Goblin, #50, 1st Kingpin, or #129, 1st Punisher, which are all HUGE keys).
One of the few Silver Age comics to break the $1M barrier, the famous Curator copy graded a CGC 9.8, but most of the issues which turn up are usually in the 3.0 to 5.0 range.
Amazing Spider-Man #2
First Vulture
Lowest price $750
Average price $2,000
Record price $168,000
The Vulture has not only starred as the antagonist in an MCU movie, but he's part of the Sinister Six.

Amazing Spider-Man #4
First Sandman
Lowest price $750
Average price $1,500
Record price $174,000
Sandman has many parallels with horror movies. He became a human with the ability to reconstruct himself into different shapes and sizes after being exposed to radioactive sand at a nuclear testing facility.
Another Tobey Maguire movie villain, as well as a member of the Sinister Six. He's a cool villain who is due a reboot. The red cover is hard to find in nice shape.
Amazing Spider-Man #5
Doctor Doom crossover
Lowest price $200
Average price $1,200
Record price $21,000
Longtime FF enemy Doctor Doom is being rebooted in the Fantastic Four homecoming movie. What price a Spidey appearance in that movie?
Amazing Spider-Man #6
First Lizard
Lowest price $200
Average price $1,200
Record price $71,000
The gross horror-themed Lizard was the result of scientific experimentation gone horribly wrong. Lizard can regrow limbs, like the animal, and climb walls.
Lizard was an Andrew Garfield movie enemy. Could it be rebooted? I thought they did a great job of bringing him to the big screen.
Amazing Spider-Man #9
First Electro
Lowest price $250
Average price $1,000
Record price $126,000
Another MCU villain and a member of the Sinister Six. Electro crossed over into Daredevil as well.
Amazing Spider-Man #10
First Enforcers
Lowest price $150
Average price $350
Record price $19,200
Not the most popular book in the early Amazing Spider Man comics run, featuring a one-shot Spider Man villain team and a weird green cover color.
Amazing Spider-Man #13
First Mysterio
Lowest price $300
Average price $1,200
Record price $36,000
The villain from Spider-Man: Far From Home is also a member of the Sinister Six, so there's a chance he will come back as part of another project.
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1
1st Sinister Six; Thor appearance
Lowest price $200
Average price $1,000
Record price $78,000
The first Sinister Six appearance is the main reason this is a key issue. But Thor also crosses over into the story, encountering Spider-Man for the first time.
The Sinister Six are Mysterio, Doctor Octopus, Sandman, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter and Electro.
This book has many pin-up pages in it and they are often missing, so count the pages with care if you're buying an uncertified copy.
Amazing Spider-Man #14
First Green Goblin
Lowest price $400
Average price $1,500
Record price $210,000
Norman Osborne is a horrific Spider-Man villain, whose exposure to chemicals he calls the "Goblin formula" permanently granted him superhuman powers and shattered his sanity.
This book is a double whammy! THE iconic Spider-Man villain, instantly recognizable even to non-geeks, and the antagonist to the first Tobey Maguire Spider-Man.
This book also features the Incredible Hulk in his first battle with Spidey, so Hulk fans have a reason to want a copy too.
Amazing Spider-Man #15
First Kraven the Hunter
Lowest price $250
Average price $1,200
Record price $78,000
Kraven the Hunter is a movie project after years of speculation and false starts. One of the longest-running feuds in comic books, Spider-Man vs Kraven has long been popular with fans.
Amazing Spider-Man #16
Daredevil crossover
Lowest price $200
Average price $600
Record price $21,600
An early Daredevil appearance, pre-dating Daredevil #7 and the famous costume change to his more familiar red and black.
Amazing Spider-Man #20
First Scorpion
Lowest price $300
Average price $1,400
Record price $65,500
Exposed to radiation and chemically bonded to scorpion genes, the Scorpion has similar horrific powers to Spider-Man himself.
Heavily tipped to appear in the MCU, the Scorpion is just one of the seemingly endless new villains introduced in the early years of Amazing Spider Man comics.
Amazing Spider-Man #28
First Molten Man; rare in high grade
Lowest price $50
Average price $500
Record price $42,000
Mark Raxton accidentally covered himself in molten metal, granting him superpowers and an evil persona.
Molten Man is a pretty minor Spider-Man villain, but this issue is best known for being very tough to acquire in high grade, due to the all-black front cover.
Amazing Spider-Man #31
First Mary Jane Watson
Lowest price $200
Average price $500
Record price $96,000
Mary Jane Watson, the love interest in Peter Parker's life, appears for the first time in this bright red covered issue.
Amazing Spider-Man #39
Green Goblin unmasks Peter
Lowest price $40
Average price $500
Record price $52,800
The first half of a classic battle story with the Green Goblin, with the famous unmasked cover.
Amazing Spider-Man #40
Origin of the Green Goblin
Lowest price $40
Average price $400
Record price $19,200
The origin story of heroes and villains always adds a touch of spice to an issue, and this is no exception. Green Goblin being Spidey's most infamous enemy, ASM #40 is always popular.
Amazing Spider-Man #41
First Rhino
Lowest price $150
Average price $700
Record price $60,000
Rhino is a Russian criminal who was experimented on with chemical radiation, resulting in a horrific tough skin covering and gained superhuman strength and speed.
Not quite an A-list villain, nonetheless, Rhino is a popular baddie who has briefly appeared in the MCU.
Amazing Spider-Man #46
First Shocker
Lowest price $30
Average price $450
Record price $18,000
Another B- or C-list villain who has had a brief appearance in the MCU, and that is probably as much or more than he deserved.
Amazing Spider-Man #50
First Kingpin
Lowest price $250
Average price $1,000
Record price $99,000
They don't get much bigger than Kingpin, and that's not just his chest size. A long-time enemy of Spider-Man and later, Captain America.
The villain in Into the Spider-Verse is also a big part of the MCU as a foil to the Punisher, and probably has more to give.
Amazing Spider-Man #78
First Prowler
Lowest price $40
Average price $400
Record price $6,700
Prowler has appeared in the Miles Morales film Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, ending the endless speculation about the future of the character in the MCU.
Amazing Spider-Man #86
Black Widow appears with new costume
Lowest price $25
Average price $300
Recent 9.8 Sale $4,300
Record price $8,100

Amazing Spider-Man #100
Anniversary issue
Lowest price $25
Average price $250
Recent 9.8 Sale $3,450
Record price $16,000
Any series which gets to issue #100 has something to celebrate. Prices have been hammered since the pandemic!
Amazing Spider-Man #101
First Morbius, the Living Vampire
Lowest price $100
Average price $400
Recent 9.8 Sale $12,500
Record price $26,400
The Morbius movie has come and gone, and it was not well received by fans.
Co-inciding with the downturn in the comics market and the pandemic bubble bursting, values of this book have gone off a cliff lately. It's still one of the classic Marvel horror comics.
Amazing Spider-Man #119
Hulk vs Spider-Man battle
Lowest price $20
Average price $200
Record price $2,275
Hulk first met Spider-Man in issue #14, but as a side-note to the introduction of the Green Goblin. This is the first "proper" crossover story.
Amazing Spider-Man #121
Death of Gwen Stacy
Lowest price $125
Average price $400
Record price $9,300
A true landmark issue, shocking the Spider-Man world (especially Mexico -- see below). Not a dream, not a fantasy, her death was the real deal.
Except in Mexico...
Amazing Spider-Man #122
Death of the Green Goblin
Lowest price $40
Average price $300
Record price $10,800
Wracked with grief at Gwen Stacy's death in the previous issue, Spider-Man cannot control his fury, and chooses to kill the Green Goblin instead of showing mercy.
Amazing Spider-Man #124
First Man-Wolf
Lowest price $10
Average price $100
Record price $9,600
Marvel Horror was briefly all the rage. Man-Wolf ran for two issues, but the speculation around the character was strong.
Until it wasn't. No longer a hot property.
Amazing Spider-Man #129
First Punisher
Lowest price $300
Average price $1,500
Recent 9.8 Sale $14,400
Record price $57,000
Punisher is right up there with Kingpin and the Green Goblin as the most influential and important characters in the Spider-Man universe.
A huge key issue! But the pandemic sugar high is way past its sell-by date now.
Amazing Spider-Man #194
First Black Cat
Lowest price $60
Average price $250
Record price $5,700
Over the years, Peter Parker has had several love interests, both in and out of costume.
Black Cat is the latest character to draw the attention of Spider-fans, with classic covers by J. Scott Campbell adding a curvy, revealing sexuality to the costume.
Black Cat feels like a Marvel reaction to Catwoman, with similar "frenemy" storylines and sexual tension driving the character.
A note on grades and record sales
Modern books sold in huge quantities and often stockpiled in perfect conditions sometimes led to CGC (the main grading company) awarding their extremely scarce 9.9 and 10.0 grades to modern comics.
These throw off the pricing to the extent that we capped the grade we consider at 9.8, as that is realistically the highest you could expect to get yourself if you submit your modern comic books.
Amazing Spider-Man #238
First Hobgoblin; includes "Tatooz" insert
Lowest price $40
Average price $300
Record price $4,100
Hobgoblin was a new Spider villain for the 1980s. This comic book included a Tatooz insert, and if it's missing then the book is considered incomplete.
It can be a tough book to find in 9.8 because the insert creates a fine crease if the book is pressed before grading.
Amazing Spider-Man #252
Symbiote costume appears in the series for the first time
Lowest price $40
Average price $150
Record price $2,450
After the first appearance in Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8 (see below), the alien symbiote (aka black suit Spider-Man) was here to stay.
Amazing Spider-Man #300
First full Venom by McFarlane
Lowest price $200
Average price $350
Record price $9,200
Todd McFarlane changed the history of Amazing Spider Man comics. His unique style exploded interest in the character again, which inadvertently led to the massive expansion and subsequent implosion of the comic market in the 1990s.
The spin-off 1990 Spider-Man #1 was printed in millions of copies and different versions McFarlane subsequently left Marvel to co-found Image Comics, which is still publishing books today.
Amazing Spider Man Comic #300 is a timeless classic which is keenly sought-after in any condition.
Spider-Man #1
Regular edition
Lowest price $1
Average price $10
Record price $300
McFarlane's popularity on Amazing Spider Man comics led to this spin-off series. #1 was published in the millions. If this were the only version, then it would be a mere footnote in the history of comic books.
But that is not the case! There are multiple versions for different markets. The book was published in poly bags for some markets. When sold on newsstands, they included a UPC bar code, and those are very popular due to their scarcity, especially in high grade.
Below are the different "special" versions. I have not bothered you with multiple images showing UPC bar code AND Spider-Man heads; the images above explain the difference.
In all cases, newsstand UPC bar codes are far more valuable.
Spider-Man #1 (1990)
Silver Edition
Lowest price $1
Average price $10
Record price $275
Sold in a poly bag as a special collector's edition, the silver cover is nothing special.
Spider-Man #1 (1990)
Gold Edition
Lowest price $1
Average price $20
Record price $400
Although it looks pretty, the gold edition with Spider-Man head is just another collector's edition to cash in.
Spider-Man #1 (1990)
Gold UPC Wal-Mart Edition
Lowest price $40
Average price $400
Record price $2,600
Printed with a UPC bar code for sale in Wal-Mart, this is THE "regular" edition that collectors flock to. Scarce.
Spider-Man #1 (1990)
Platinum Edition
Lowest price $100
Average price $500
Record price $5,700
Following the massive success of Spider-Man #1, Marvel Comics rewarded the loyalty of the retailers who ordered it in large quantities with this 'platinum' edition.
The cover has heavier card stock and the Marvel logo at top left is printed in silver ink. See the detail photo above. The highest-graded copy is CGC 9.8.
Amazing Spider-Man #361
First Carnage
Lowest price $5
Average price $40
Record price $4,200
Carnage has had his day in the MCU, and at the height of the pandemic a 9.8 sold for over $4K. Compare and contrast with the most recent sale of... $120!
Amazing Spider-Man #569
1st Anti-Venom
Lowest price $1
Average price $35
Record price $330
Eddie Brock becomes Anti-Venom. Apparently this is going to be part of the upcoming Thunderbolts movie.
Amazing Spider-Man #667
Gabrielle Del'Otto variant
Lowest price $4,000
Average price $7,000
Record price $43,200
This legendary variant cover seems genuinely rare, with just 68 copies in the CGC census. At the pandemic sugar high, it became the first variant cover to break the $40K barrier.
Still selling strongly with the most recent sale of a 9.8 being $35K.

Daredevil #1
Origin and First Appearance of Matt Murdock
Lowest price $700
Average price $2,500
Record price $360,000
From 1964, this is the most recently published of the big Marvel keys, and it turns up pretty often. Usually the condition is slightly better than the other keys, in the 3.0 to 5.0 range.
The recent monster sale of a 9.8 set a new record. Prices for this book are all over the place, with the previous record $500K and a recent $125K sale of 9.8s showing just how random it can be when high-grade copies come to market.
Tales to Astonish #57
Spider-Man vs Giant-Man
Lowest price $40
Average price $180
Record price $6,700
Spider-Man crossovers have always been popular, and this is one of the earlier ones.

Although Spider-Man (somewhat resembling a luche libre Mexican wrestler) appears, he's actually an imposter created by Kang.
Daredevil #16
Spider-Man vs Daredevil
Lowest price $50
Average price $250
Record price $7,500
Part one of a two-part Spider-Man crossover story, which finishes in Daredevil #17 the following month.
Silver Surfer #14
Spider-Man vs Silver Surfer
Lowest price $25
Average price $100
Record price $9,000
This is a popular crossover between two of the most collected characters in the Marvel Comics Silver Age era, even though it appears in the early Bronze Age comic books era.
Strange Tales Annual #2
Spider-Man vs Human Torch; 4th or 5th appearance depending on which source you believe
Lowest price $150
Average price $500
Record price $25,000
Most sources believe this is the 4th total appearance of Spider-Man, but it's claimed that Fantastic Four Annual #1 came out a month earlier.
Either way, it's a very early appearance of Spider-Man and highly collectible.
Fantastic Four Annual #1
Very early Spider-Man appearance
Lowest price $75
Average price $400
Record price $40,800
Somewhat resembling the Mexican luche libre wrestler style art from the Avengers #11 appearance, this very popular early Marvel annual is either the 4th or 5th total appearance of Spider-Man.
Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #8
First appearance of the Alien Symbiote (black costume)
Lowest price $40
Average price $220
Record price $1,250
The alien symbiote, a parasitic alien who possesses its host, changed the entire future of the Marvel Universe.
It marked the moment that humans admitted that aliens are a fact of life, and eventually leading to Venom and Carnage.
Ultimate Fallout #4
First Miles Morales as Spider-Man
Lowest price $40
Average price $300
Record price $4,500
Miles Morales is the future of Spider-Man for sure.
There is a variant cover which has sold for over $40K, but has crashed to earth since the pandemic bubble burst. There is also a very rare newsstand variant.
El Sorpredente Hombre Arana #128
Mexican Amazing Spider-Man Comic Goes Non-Canon
The Wedding of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy!
Lowest price $2,000
Average price $5,000
Record price $25,000
The crazy story behind this -- and the following Mexican issues of Amazing Spider-Man -- is hard to believe. The outcry when Gwen Stacy was killed by the Green Goblin in ASM #121 was global, but in Mexico the publisher was inundated by outraged fans.
They approached Marvel with an insane idea. To bring back Gwen Stacy and have her marry Peter Parker... And Marvel agreed!
Until this time, the Mexican editions of the comic book followed the US canon exactly, including reprints of the same cover art. Once this decision was made, Mexican editions created an entirely non-standard storyline, with locally-produced cover art unique to Mexico.
These books are rare and highly sought-after.
Spectacular Spider-Man #64
First Cloak and Dagger
Lowest price $10
Average price $50
Record price $1,350
Cloak and Dagger are becoming part of the MCU, and this first appearance is on a downswing value-wise.
Giant Size Spider-Man #4
Third Punisher appearance
Lowest price $20
Average price $100
Record price $5,000
This book is a Marvel squarebound issue, and a key for Punisher collectors. It's selling for around half pandemic prices.
