The LEGO Porsche 911: What's Not to Love?

Why the LEGO Porsche 911 is special, and what it's worth today

I hadn't assembled a LEGO set since my kids were young.

The LEGO Porsche 911 can be built as a Turbo or a Targa modelThe LEGO Porsche 911 can be built as a Turbo or a Targa model

But as I walked past the LEGO store in Montreal's Fairview shopping mall and spotted it out of the corner of my eye, I knew I had to have one!

At the time, I owned my first ever Porsche 911, a silver over tan 997 Carrera C4S convertible from 2007.

The LEGO Porsche didn't come with body colour options (surely a missed opportunity by LEGO!), but the interior was the exact match for mine. I wish they made these great models in silver!

The LEGO 911 set forces you to choose a model variant during the build process.

You either have to construct the Targa, with a roof which opens to allow visual access to the interior, or the Turbo model, with its famous "whale tail" spoiler.

As I wanted to be able to see the interior of the 911, so similar to my car at the time, I opted for the Targa.

If you already own a LEGO Porsche 911, then you might have found it frustrating, as I did, to be forced to choose.

And the lack of colour options will make Porsche fans want to reach for solutions to change the body colour to match their real-world cars.

You might also be wondering how much these great models are worth?

It wasn't an exact match, but the interior of the LEGO 911 was eerily similar to my first ever

LEGO Porsche 911 Value and Features

If you've bought and built a LEGO set as an adult, then you'll know what to expect from the LEGO Porsche.

These things are quite expensive!

I spent over $200 CDN on mine -- a quick glance at the LEGO Canada store shows that, while these are hard to find (at least that's what their website claims), they still retail for $210 plus tax in Canada.

On the used market, you can expect to pay between $80 and $100 for a pre-built one, including the box and instructions, as well as the unbuilt optional model pieces.

But there are more LEGO Porsche 911 models than just the Creator set I bought. Check out the price guide below for more info.
