Since 1964, GI Joe toys have been part of the cultural landscape.

Introduced by Hasbro, the original line of GI Joe action figures was designed to be realistic.

They measured 12 inches tall, and various accessories, including vehicles and outfits, were available.

Hasbro licensed the toy line to Palitoy in the UK, and it was rebranded as Action Man.

In 1982, Hasbro relaunched the entire line as GI Joe, A Real American Hero in 3.5 inch scale.

At the same time, it increased the number of playsets and vehicles available. They also introduced more characters, including superhero-style characters.

To promote the new toys, Hasbro licensed a comic book series by Marvel Comics, and an animated TV series.

It came with A.V.A.C. pilot, Firebat F404 after-burning turbojet, three vehicle service / refueling stations, a prisoner containment chamber, a munitions storage depot, a launch silo activation chamber, two blast door-mounted laser cannons, four seated computer stations, two standing terminals, two tower-mounted laser cannons, two launch shields and thrust vents and a giant launch silo covered by eight blast shields.

Complete sets even without the box are extremely difficult to find. You can sell individual pieces for very good money, as other collectors want to finish theirs.
