Masters of the Universe Figures and Playsets

Most Valuable Masters of the Universe Figures, Playsets and Toys

"I have the power!"

I have the power... to tell you what your Masters of the Universe figures, toys and playsets are worth!I have the power... to tell you what your Masters of the Universe figures, toys and playsets are worth!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe was an animated TV show based on Mattel toys, which ran from 1983 to 1985.

It was hugely popular with kids of the era, and spawned a spin-off show She-Ra: Princess of Power.

For many collectors, sentiment about the shows we grew up with lead to us hunting down memorabilia from that era.

While some movies and TV shows (most notably the original Star Wars trilogy) enjoy success and then licence their characters to companies, this reversal by Mattel meant that the show effectively was an advertisement for the toys.

If you have a collection of old He-Man and She-Ra action figures, toys and playsets, or even MOTU comics, then this guide will help you to find the value of them.

If you're still struggling, then get in touch with us today. We'll appraise your vintage toys free!

How to Value Action Figures
Here's how action figure collectors value their collectibles. This will help you to "figure out" what you've got in your hand!

  1. Mint on Card (MOC) or Mint in Box (MIB) -- as sold in stores. The value can be affected by the condition of the card backing and the clear plastic bubble. Also, price stickers attached to the cardboard can bring down prices.
  2. Complete with original packaging -- complete but opened and presumed used.
  3. Complete without packaging -- figure is complete with all accessories, but no card/box.
  4. Incomplete -- figure is whole but missing accessories, including costume, weapons, mount etc. The more items which are missing, the more this affects the value.
  5. Damaged and incomplete -- the figure has a significant fault such as a broken or missing limb, lots of wear on the paint etc.

He-Man

Loose incomplete $25

Loose complete $50

MOC Mint on Card $450

Released in 1982 as Part of Wave 1, He-Man came packaged with a mini comic, Sword of Power, axe, shield and armor. He had a soft head (made in Taiwan).

The original series of Masters of the Universe figures included a fairly limited range of choices. Most fans of the show would have wanted the "good guy" He-Man. This one is relatively easy to find, as so many were sold.

Skeletor

Loose incomplete $15

Loose complete $50

MOC Mint on Card $700

Released in 1982 as Part of Wave 1, Skeletor came packed with a mini comic, armor, Sword of Power and his iconic staff! Also had a soft head (Taiwan).

Probably the second-most popular figure, because what use is a good guy if you don't have a bad guy to fight?

Mail-away promotion figure (1983)

Loose incomplete $500+

Loose complete with sword and axe $1,500++

Part of Mattel's Buy Three Get One mail-in promotion in 1983. The promotional figures were not produced on cards, as they were not required to hang in retail outlets.

This action figure had brown hair, brown shorts, a black costume black belt and boots. He-Man featured an unknown number of accessories: items which have been sold with the figure are sword, axe, laser rifle, mace, shield and black armor.

Most or all of these items have since been identified as part of other sets and were not included with the Wonder Bread He-Man.

It originally arrived with just the loincloth and probably just the sword and axe. It is identifiable by the 1981 date stamped on its back and neck, as well as it slightly raised neck due to lack of a neck peg.
